چکیده

Simple configuration and broadband characteristic are required for RF module in passive millimeter-wave imaging. We propose a layer-structured imaging module for simple structure, low profile and easy manufacturing [1]. This module is composed of lens antenna and detector module as shown in Fig.1. Lens and feeding horn antenna are designed to realize high-gain lens-antenna which operates over broad frequency bandwidth. Detector circuit and waveguide-to-microstrip (WGMS) transition are also designed to obtain highly-sensitive detector-module with waveguide input which can be connected with waveguide fed horn antenna of the lens antenna. Since a printed substrate with detector circuit is fixed between two metal plates, the module forms a layer structure, which contributes to low profile and easy manufacturing. Designs of the lens antenna and the detector module are indicated and RF performances of these components are reported in this paper.

Passive Millimeter-Wave Imaging for Security

How It Works Unlike X-Ray systems with their ionizing radiation, and active Microwave systems which bathe the subject in RF, passive millimeter-wave (PMMW) imaging systems read the natural thermal energy in environment, much like an infrared camera. Unfortunately, infrared wavelengths are too short to pass through clothing, so we choose a longer wavelength of 3 millimeters (specifically 80 to 1...

Simulation of Multi-Layer Rough Surfaces Media in the Passive Millimeter-Wave Imaging

The simulation of multi-layer rough surfaces is an indispensable step in passive radiation imaging, to which little attention has been paid so far. Based on the existing model of brightness temperature tracing described in our recent works, diffused transmission of the bottom layer is taken into account in the improved model which is presented in this paper. Then, a method called multi-layer br...

In this paper, we present novel three-dimensional (3-D) compact and easy-to-design passive solutions (filters/duplexers, antennas, couplers) using system-on-package (SOP) multilayer low temperature cofired ceramic (LTCC) and organic (Liquid Crystal Polymer (LCP)) technologies in RF and millimeter-wave wireless systems. Both ceramic and organic technologies are candidates for the 3-D integration...
